Massachusetts
ReligionIn the early 1600's the Puritans created the Massachusetts Bay Colony for religious reasons. Religion affected our government severely. Only male church members can only vote or serve our government. The Puritans have their own self government. We made laws and rules for our own self protection.

GovernmentWe have a charter or written agreement between us and the King of England. Our colonial legislature was elected by properly holding males, but our Governors are appointed by the King and those people had almost complete control over our colony. We have our own governor and council, known as the upper house, appointed for us by Britain. Colonists elect an assembly called the lower house.
